The Indus River valley in the northwestern South Asia nurtured the development of one of the world's first civilizations. It offered fertile agricultural land, while mounting and oceans provided natural barriers for protection from invaders. A series of civilizations developed here and in the Ganges River valley to the east.

This weeks objectives are to:

  1. Identify the key features of the Indus Valley civilization.
  2. Explain how the Indo-Aryans shape the culture of South Asia.
  3. Identify the achievements of the Maurya and Gupta empires.
