Course Description
This course will provide an overview of the geography and history of the world including early civilizations of Africa, Europe, Asia, North America and South America. The 5 Themes of Geography form the core of this class as students work to develop map and globe skills and learn to identify cultural patterns. The 5 Themes of Geography include location, place, human / environment interaction, movement and region. In addition, vocabulary development, reading, research skills, and current events are emphasized throughout the year.

Major Course Projects and Assignments
Projects and assignments may include physical and political maps, posters, art projects, research projects, group work, group/oral presentations, flip books, mobiles, graphic organizers, and major writing activities.
Assessment and Grading Plan
Students will be assessed on assignments, quizzes, daily work, chapter tests, projects, presentations, preparation, participation and group work.
Policy for Re-Doing Work
Any exceptional circumstances must be addressed to the teacher as soon as possible and will be subject to
his / her discretion. Students receiving less than an 80% on assessments and projects are encouraged to
complete corrections for additional credit. End of Course (EOC) assessments are unable to be redone.

Grading Rubrics
Rubrics will be used for our map activities, as well as for our individual and group projects.
Cheating
Cheating is a no tolerance offence. If you are caught cheating, a zero for that assignments, quizzes, daily work, chapter tests, projects, presentations, preparation, participation and group work. will be earned both by the person cheating and also by any person(s) that are helping them cheat. Cheating will automatically deny a student’s opportunity to retake or redo that assignments, quizzes, daily work, chapter tests, projects, presentations, preparation, participation and group work.
